Amazon Web Services is suffering what it describes as an operational issue in its US-East (N. Virginia) region on Monday stelling from a problem in its non-relational database DynamoDB, knocking out or degrading many consumer and enterprise services worldwide.
Market companies linked to the aws incident included London Stock Exchange Group data services, Coinbase, and consumer platforms such as Snapchat, Vodafone or.”gov” affected according to the website Downdetector. Also LSEG reported all its systems were live they were unavailable to clarify the situation as we write.
Among what is likely a widespread outage, BMLL, the market data, analytics and compute champion who has Optiver as a shareholder, told clients it was facing a complete service outage across its services and attributed the interruption to the AWS regional issue, saying it was working with AWS to restore service:
“We are experiencing an issue resulting in a complete service outage impacting BMLL Data Lab, BMLL Vantage and BMLL Data Feed, as a result of a regional service issue at AWS impacting a large proportion of their customer base, including BMLL… We understand the inconvenience this outage may cause and sincerely apologise for any disruption to your work.”
AWS said engineers were engaged to mitigate and resolve the problem. UK sites including Lloyds/Halifax/Bank of Scotland/Vodafone/Fortnite and HMRC are also seeing major disruptions.
