Belfius and Kepler Cheuvreux strengthen joint equity offering in Belgium

Belfius and Kepler Cheuvreux have extended their strategic partnership for a further five years and will will continue to develop their offering in equity capital markets (ECM), equity research, equity sales and brokerage.

Since the alliance was formed in November 2017, Belfius has acquired a roughly 5% stake in the independent brokerage firm and became a member of its supervisory board.

Under the partnership, Belfius is responsible for origination and structuring services for ECM transactions in Belgium, while Kepler Cheuvreux provides equity research, brokerage, and institutional sales.

The firms said that the partnership will propel them to first place in ECM transactions in Belgium in 2022, in terms of volumes.

Between 2018 and 2022, they both advised and assisted Belgian listed companies in 59 ECM transactions including five initial public offerings (IPOs), raising a total  around €8 billion.

Belfius and Kepler Cheuvreux together have over 110 equity analysts and cover 90% of the market. In addition, the latter’s Benelux research ranked second in the Institutional Investor Survey in 2022.

Dirk Gyselinck, member of the management committee of Belfius, says that the renewing of the strategic partnership allows it to further strengthen its ECM offering in order to pursue the development and expansion of its financial services both for businesses , to institutions and to wealth management clients.

He notes that it has also allowed Belfius to rise to a position of expert and leader in equity, which allows us to expand our offer in a profitable way and to further diversify our distribution capacities.”

Dirk Gyselinck, chairman of the supervisory board of Kepler Cheuvreux, adds, “The renewal of the partnership with Belfius proves the performance of our model and shows the solid anchoring of the Kepler Cheuvreux Group in the European market.”
