Stephens leads Schroders’ growing ETF business

Tom Stephens has joined Schroders as its inaugural head of ETFs, as the firm’s ETF assets under management (AUM) pass US$1 billion.

Schroders holds approximately US$1 trillion in total AUM as of H1 2025, and launched its first two active ETFs in Europe last September.

Based in London, Stephens reports to global head of client group Matt Oomen.

Oomen commented, “Our recent European active ETF launches will enable us to reach more investors than ever before, and Tom’s deep knowledge and experience of the ETF market will help marry our growing capabilities with increasing client interest.”

Stephens has 20 years of industry experience and joins the firm from JP Morgan Asset Management, where he was managing director and international head of ETF capital markets for more than eight years. The firm holds more than US$220 billion in ETF AUM as of H1 2025.

Prior to this, he spent close to a decade with Societe Generale Corporate and Investment Banking covering European ETF execution sales and ETF sales and trading. He also worked on the product management team for iShares ETFs at Barclays Global Investors.

Stephens is currently chair of the Investment Association’s ETF committee.
